Ilana Luong (IIM 2022) shares her passion for immersive design with the next generation
At IIM Digital School, 3rd year Creation & Design students explored XR during a module led by Ilana Luong, IIM alumni class of 2022. Now a freelance XR designer, she returned to pass on her expertise and help future creative minds design innovative immersive experiences.
From the IIM to Bosch and the French Navy
Since graduating, Ilana has been working freelance in the XR sector. Today, she designs immersive experiences for major accounts such as Bosch and the French Navy, leads collaborative workshops, and trains both professionals and students.
She also publishes the newsletter [XR Design for Humans], in which she shares her thoughts, trends and feedback on this fast-changing field.
For Ilana, XR is moving into a new era. While AI is developing faster than XR - not least because it is less technically demanding - it is the convergence of the two technologies that could radically transform our uses.
"The day XR gives AI a body, we'll literally be able to materialize our imaginations. Provided it doesn't turn into a Black Mirror."
With an acute awareness of ethical, security and accessibility issues, Ilana encourages young creators to forge an XR culture, remain curious, and dare to experiment. She believes that today's imaginations shape tomorrow's uses.
Ilana was impressed by the high calibre of the projects developed, both in terms of the attention paid to the user experience, the clarity of their intentions, and the maturity of their execution.
